Apple’s New AI Search Engine… Google Inside

AI Summary

Apple is making a full-scale entry into the AI search market by introducing an AI-based search and response system through 'World Knowledge Answers'. This system is likely to be built using Google's AI model rather than its own technology. As a result, the competition in AI search is shifting from platform-centric to model and partnership-centric.

Apple’s New AI Search Engine… Powered by Google

Apple plans to launch a new AI-based search and response system, "World Knowledge Answers," alongside a major revamp of Siri in the spring of 2025. This system operates in a three-step structure: analyzing a user's query, retrieving relevant information, and then providing a summarized response.

Interestingly, Apple considered Anthropic's "Claude" while seeking an AI partner to build this system. However, the deal ultimately fell through due to the annual cost of over $1.5 billion. Instead, it is reported that the company opted for Google's AI model, securing relatively favorable terms.

Ultimately, while the "new AI search engine" Apple is attempting to introduce into its ecosystem may appear to be Apple-based, it's likely that Google's AI will be at its core. This feature is expected to be integrated into Safari and Spotlight search in the future, not just Siri, and is interpreted as a signal that Apple is entering the full-scale AI war.
